In this unit your child will study energy. They will identify the different forms of energy: light, sound, chemical, kinetic, electrical and thermal. They will learn the principle physical laws that govern energy. They will understand how these laws cause phenomena such as reflection, refraction, shadows and echoes.
Children will identify and explain the differences between renewable and non-renewable energy sources. They will understand the dangers of non-renewable sources and also the advantages and disadvantages of the different alternative energy sources.
Your child will discuss the importance of saving energy and the need for sensible energy consumption. They will think about ways to save energy at home and at school. They will become aware of how much energy we use in our daily lives.
They will also discuss the importance of water as a natural resource and the need to save water. Children will also investigate electricity and magnetism. They will learn about electrical charges, electrical currents, static electricity, insulators and conductors.
